Humans Don’t Care.

P.S. We should.

The other day I was on a “date”. Unprovoked, this guy tells me he has a 6-figure debt from school. My mouth dropped mid-dinner once I heard the amount. “They shouldn’t have let you take out that much!” I shouted.
5 minutes later he starts talking about buying a $30,000 watch with his Bitcoin…

Umm…Check please!!! 🏃🏽‍♀️

As Humans, we are not evolved to care about much past our immediate environment. People expect you to have an opinion about every little thing.
In reality times ticking and few things matter, but there’s a few essentials.

The problem is not that people are indifferent. It’s that people are largely indifferent about the wrong shit.

Health 🥦

Given the fact that our mental and physical health is everything, and we are nothing without it, I’d say this is #1 on the list of important shit. Almost half of Americans are obese. That’s a fixable problem on an individual or group level. Yet we double our portions, opt for surgery, and diet pills over eating a fucking salad.

Career 💻

According to Gallup 85% of people hate their jobs. That’s like everybody? Well, we don’t always keep that same energy after the jobs done. There’s a hidden truth. Employers know it’s a numbers game in that a small percentage of people hired will actually move the needle in their company. Conversely, employees get comfortable and that passion, drive, and work ethic turns to transactional behavior. As a designer my view on work is colorful, creative and systems-oriented. I’m always looking for a way to automate, template and build on the previous effort. Anyone could benefit from that approach because we live in an age of infinite leverage.

What you choose to work on, and who you choose to work with, are far more important than how hard you work. — Naval

By the way that is #2 on the list of important shit.

Finance 💳

Yup #3

Being born into wealth or a financially stable home is a privilege. So people who never had to worry about money tend not to ever worry about money.

Being born into poverty (or becoming impoverished)is a test in strength. Ignoring the fact that money is important doesn’t do us any favors. Unfortunately the odds are stacked against poor people because they’re emotionally poor more than anything. Plenty of rich people start from 0 so it’s not that. The upside is being proactive in building and creating a healthy financial situation. I never cared about money until I had to pay my own rent without mommy/daddy saving me. Now, I’m happy to have experienced that because financial literacy is a rare skill. A skill I would’ve likely ignored learning if I had help.

I don’t mention social because honestly life is meta af. Those 3 categories directly influence how a person relates socially. They constantly shows up.
From first dates, to work, to relationships and everywhere else.

Take care of the important shit and everything else falls into place.

Conclusion 👋🏾

Having indifference is fine, it saves us energy and helps us prioritize.
Something has to take the backseat, but for phucks sake don’t let it be health, career or a 6-figure debt.
